About Matt
Santa Cruz Artist, art has been described as visionary and psychedelic. Add in 3D glasses to the mix and you are in for a wild ride.
Early Influences
My eldest brother Dave was one of the earliest influences on my life. For him, drawing came easily. With confidence, I remember looking at his drawings and thinking “those are my brothers, I should be able to draw like that.”
Discovering Live Painting
Twenty-five years later, after taking numerous classes and experimenting with different mediums and styles, my paintings we basically just like everyone else's paintings. I'm always searching to find my own style, so when you see it work, it can’t be anyone else’s… it's a Matt Jones.
In 1999, I was dancing at Earth Dance Music Fest, watching “live” painters for the first time, thinking I wanted to try that. I was accepted the very next year to become one of the “Painters for Peace,” and the rest is history. You can still find me making magic on the left side of the main stage at the High Sierra Music Fest, going on my 18th year.
